Our Story

The Artsy Backyard was created in 2018 by Ronit Rozen as a way to blend two of her passions, teaching and art. Ronit holds a Masters in Education and was a school teacher for over 25 years, working with elementary and middle school-aged children. It wasn't until Ronit took a painting class for fun, where she realized that she was skilled in the art and also deeply enjoyed it. This led to going back to school to study Graphic Design at Otis College of Art and Design.

Ronit opened The Artsy Backyard to provide a space for creativity and expression within her community. Ronit wanted to make her studio as accessible to her community as possible, so opening up her studio in the central Los Angeles, CA area was a perfect fit.

Our Philosophy

Art is for everyone! At The Artsy Backyard, we embrace creativity and self-expression through art, and we know that every artist has a unique style and point of view. Our goal is to guide students through techniques, methods, and mediums that allow them to explore new and exciting means of artistic expression in a safe, judgment-free space.

We welcome artists of every age and ability level to join us in discovering the joys of creation, developing new skills, and connecting with like-minded peers. Every art teacher on our team is dedicated to helping students expand their horizons, express themselves, and have fun along the way.

Meet Our Talented Team

How Our Art Teachers Help Artists of All Ages and Skill Levels Grow

We believe that access to art and artistic expression should be available for everyone, regardless of age or skill level, which is why we proudly offer classes for kids, teens, and adults. Whether you’re looking to join a class, set up a private event, or pursue one-on-one instruction, you’ll find what you’re looking for with The Artsy Backyard.

Inspiring Children to Discover Their Creativity

Children are already curious and creative, and art can give them a way to explore their imaginations and express themselves in healthy and productive ways. All it takes is the guidance of a compassionate art teacher to help kids grow in confidence and embrace their creative spirits.

Our kid-friendly art teachers love to work with little ones. We offer both one-on-one and group lessons, with options to come to our location or host private classes in your own backyard. Classes are available to children aged five and up.

Younger students (pre-K to first grade) will be introduced to a range of mediums, with lessons that focus on having fun with art and developing fine motor skills. Children in grades 2 through 5 will start to learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, sculpture, and other mediums.

Encouraging Artistic Expression in Teens and Adults

As people grow older and begin to prioritize their time, it’s all too easy for certain hobbies to fall by the wayside. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to try art but never thought you’d have the opportunity. Our art teachers love to nurture creativity in people of all ages, including teens and adults.

It’s time to pick up a pencil or paintbrush and reconnect with your creative side! Whether you’re looking for a drawing pro to start you off with the basics or a painting expert to take your creations on canvas to the next level, you’ll find experienced art and drawing teachers who can help you explore your artistic interests at The Artsy Backyard.

Choose from courses like Fundamentals of Drawing or Intro to Fine Art - Painting, designed specifically for high school-age and adult participants. There are even options for digital art, as well as private lessons for groups or individuals.

Providing Art Activities for Children All Year Long

Just because school is out of session doesn’t mean your kids have to say farewell to their favorite art teacher. In fact, summer break is a great time to enroll kids in art camp with The Artsy Backyard, with classes for children in grades K-1 and 2-6.

Each year, we offer several weeks of classes with flexible options to accommodate family trips or other activities. Kids can join just one or two classes, register for several weeks, or participate all summer long.

Each week has something new, and we’re happy to bring our mobile art camp to your location if you wish to host a group of kids in your own backyard.

Offering Events and Workshops to Share the Joy of Art

Scheduling a private art class with your favorite painting or drawing teacher is a great way to connect with family and friends over a shared love of art. It’s also ideal for companies looking to promote team building with an activity that’s a bit more relaxed than paintball or navigating an obstacle course reminiscent of a boot camp.

We’re pleased to offer a range of options for private events, corporate events, and art workshops. You can schedule an in-person class with one of our experienced teachers at our studio or book a mobile event at your location of choice. Either way, we provide all the needed supplies.
